Blindly forcing other people to work on their Sabbath day
I was raised as a Christian Baptist in the South. I was taught the Ten Commandments in Sunday school
and listened the Pastor elaborate more about them. The first three commandments are sins against
God and the remaining seven are sins against our fellow human beings.
The third commandment states to keep the Sabbath Day holy
and rest for all people of Jewish and Christian faiths. It does not state the rest day is Saturday
for Jews and Sunday for most Christians.
It states to rest on the seventh consecutive day. For me, Sunday is my day of rest. I don’t work at my job but instead I work on
my hobbies. This includes gardening.
The question of I am raising in today’s blog is,” is it
worse in the eyes of God and human beings to work on Sunday or to do things to
make other people work on their Sabbath?”
The following is an incomplete list of things that people do to force
others to work on the Sabbath:
·
Eat at restaurants before and after attending
church or temple
·
Buying fuel for cars
·
Shopping:
o
Grocery
o
Furniture (antiques too)
o
Clothing
o
General stuff (electronics, appliances, online,
id est
Obviously,
it is wrong to force others to work on their chosen Sabbath day. I was not taught this in the Baptist church. I was taught in the Holy Roman Catholic
Church to omit tasks that force others to work on their Sabbath day. I converted to Roman Catholicism after
marrying a Roman Catholic. It opened my
mind to much more than this. I wish
others could experience it too.
